LG Spectrum Review

The LG Spectrum is available on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network. It was built to rival the super phones coming out from the competition and it meets or beats these phones. The Spectrum has an absolutely beautiful HD screen, fast processor and comes with the promise of being upgraded to Android ICS within the next few months. While most smart phones have a very similar look, it’s the little details that set phones apart. The Spectrum has a black and gray checkered back and a dark gray metallic boarder. The home button on the bottom looks like it’s silver metallic inlaid on a light gray background.

The 4.5 inch 1280×720 pixel resolution screen looks beyond words. Incredible detail, colors that look completely natural and text looks like the printed page. LG added a few things to the Android Gingerbread, including organizational features to the apps that categorize them and gestures that make using the phone easier. Other than that, it’s a pretty vanilla Android experience with all of the customizing options. Also included are the usuals – Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mobile hotspot, GPS, DLNA, MHL, tethering, and multimedia capabilities. The 8-megapixel camera takes fantastic pictures and the 1080p HD video capture is great. Running the Spectrum is a 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S3. It’s extremely smooth and apps load immediately. Games are also incredible, with the combination of great graphics and a powerful processor.

The phone measures 4.53 by 2.32 by 0.58, so it’s more compact than the superphones hitting the market right now. It’ll fit easily into your pocket and feels securely built. The LG Optimus Net is a starter smart phone and another option to those who want a basic smart phone instead of a fully loaded huge super phone. The LG Optimus One is being released as a starter smart phone. With so many super phones being released, it’s nice to have options if you’re looking for something to do basic smart phone functions. It’s also small and compact, making it easy to slip into your pocket or bag. Measuring 4.47 by 2.32 by 0.52 and weighs 4.55 ounces, it’s about average for an entry level smart phone. The design on the phone is nice, with physical buttons along the bottom for home, back, search and options and a soft touch coating along the back of the phone. LG raised the two most used buttons – the home and back buttons – and set them slightly apart, giving the design a slightly different look.

The screen is 3.2 inches with 320×480 pixel resolution, which is also average for this screen size. The screen supports 262,144 colors which results in fairly good graphics and text. The Optimus One runs on a Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz ARM 11 processor and Adreno 200 graphic processor, making the response time fair. The Optimus One also has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, FM Radio, 3 megapixel camera with video capture, GPS, multimedia player and email capabilities. It runs Android Froyo 2.2 without any added user interface so it’s completely customizable. The Voice Search function allows you to use the phone hands free, accessing the many functions with ease. MetroPCS was the first company to offer LTE service and has now added the LG Esteem as its top smart phone with 4G LTE capabilities. The LG Esteem is large at 5.03 by 2.63 by 0.53 inches and has a durable build, making it a hefty 6.06 ounces. Able to withstand drops and bumps and with the added feature of Corning Gorilla Glass over the display, this phone is ready for anything. The 4.3 inch display is 480×800 pixel resolution and support for 262,000 colors. The display is vivid and looks great, even outdoors. The touch screen response is quick and with the 1GHz processor, apps load and run smoothly. It has Android 2.3 Gingerbread as the operating system with some slight additions by LG, like social integration, a navigation bar that allows easy access to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and airplane mode.

The Esteem has Rhapsody music service with the standard Android music player and the advanced 7.1 Dolby sound system, so your music sounds fantastic. Also included are two cameras, a 5-megapixel with flash on the back and a 1.3 on the front. These may seem average or maybe below average specs for other smart phone cameras, however, the software accompanying the cameras results in above average pictures. Intricate detail, real-to-life colors and crisp lines, these pictures beat out many 8-megapixel cameras available. The front facing camera also has great photo quality, perfect for video chatting. It also has 720p HD video capture with, like the pictures, fantastic quality. The battery life on the Esteem isn’t that great, with a rated talk time of 3.5 hours, so just be aware.
