Motorola Droid Razr Maxx Review

Companies often release second generation phones, but usually it’s not weeks after the first generation is let out. The only reason Motorola would release a new version of the Droid Razr would be if they had an extraordinary update and in this case, it’s beyond incredible. Motorola managed to keep the Droid Razr incredibly thin and yet still added a 3300 mAh battery, the largest battery that has ever been installed in a cell phone. The battery lasts 21.9 hours of usage and 15 days of standby in the phone and only increased the thickness by .07 inches and the weight by a few ounces. It still has the Kevlar backing, making the battery irremovable, but increasing the toughness of the phone.

Another thing Motorola increased was the storage – 16MB of internal storage and a 16MB storage card. Motorola managed to fit the battery in by filling in the hump on the back of the Droid Razr, making the phone feel more balanced and secure in your hand. As far as software, Motorola added security including government-grade FIPS 140-2 encryption, remote wipe, PIN lock, SD card and device encryption, and remote enable/disable of camera and Wi-Fi. Other than the increase in power, memory and security, the rest of the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is pretty much unchanged. The LG Spectrum is available on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network. It was built to rival the super phones coming out from the competition and it meets or beats these phones. The Spectrum has an absolutely beautiful HD screen, fast processor and comes with the promise of being upgraded to Android ICS within the next few months. While most smart phones have a very similar look, it’s the little details that set phones apart. The Spectrum has a black and gray checkered back and a dark gray metallic boarder. The home button on the bottom looks like it’s silver metallic inlaid on a light gray background.

The 4.5 inch 1280×720 pixel resolution screen looks beyond words. Incredible detail, colors that look completely natural and text looks like the printed page. LG added a few things to the Android Gingerbread, including organizational features to the apps that categorize them and gestures that make using the phone easier. Other than that, it’s a pretty vanilla Android experience with all of the customizing options. Also included are the usuals – Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mobile hotspot, GPS, DLNA, MHL, tethering, and multimedia capabilities. The 8-megapixel camera takes fantastic pictures and the 1080p HD video capture is great. Running the Spectrum is a 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S3. It’s extremely smooth and apps load immediately. The Nokia Lumia 710 is the first Windows 4G phone so it’s received a lot of media attention. It is a well built, fully loaded phone with a budget price. Pages load quickly and are extremely easy to navigate. The Lumia is a great size at 4.69 by 2.46 by 0.49 inches and light at 4.4 ounces. The all plastic build feels solid and you know the phone will hold up to day-to-day usage and fit comfortably in your pocket. The Lumia 710 has physical buttons instead of capacitive, a new trend hitting smart phones. Many people like the physical buttons better because there’s less chance of accidental touching.

Pantech Pocket Review

The Pantech Pocket is, in a word, untraditional. Measuring 4.52 by 3.07 by 0.44 inches, it definitely stands out with a square look next to the longer and thinner smart phones. While the name may be deceiving, as it probably won’t fit comfortably in your pocket, it is still light and comfortable to hold, with a full plastic build and soft touch, rubberized finish. It’s also light at 4.4 ounces. The 4-inch 600×800 pixel resolution screen is good for a mid-level phone with 16 million color support and text looks crisp and clean. The Pocket runs on Android Gingerbread and Pantech added a few features of their own. On the lock screen there is a circle with spokes coming out to individual apps. Drag the circle up the spoke to the app you want to open when you unlock the screen, taking out a middle step once you unlock the phone. In the middle of the ring is your battery status.

Once the phone is unlocked, you have access to 7 home screens. The Pocket comes preloaded with plenty of apps so you can get going as soon as you open the box. Among these apps are the Google Services, a wide selection of AT&T apps, Facebook, Twitter, and Amazon Kindle. One bonus for the extra wide screen is the keyboard is very roomy. It also has all of the standard smart phone features – Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, multimedia player, and email capabilities. It does have a 5 megapixel camera and 720p HD video capture, however, it does not have a flash and has a fairly long shutter lag. It runs on a single core Qualcomm 1GHz processor. The Pocket has a 2GB memory card preloaded and can support up to a 32GB card.
